Re: Decrepit Pier
I see the problem with this photo in that you have taken what your eye saw in summing up the attraction of it. The eye rapidly moves from this to that to ..... and the brain turns that into the attractive picture we 'see' ... but the reult is the combination of the weatherbeaten boards at the top, the bit of rope hanging down, the rusty bolts, the growth and so on. Perhaps you do not have a long lens to help you be selective and you don't have wings so it was an attractive shot to see and store in one's brain but not a photograph.

Re: Decrepit Pier
Hi jcuknz, I've prayed to grow wings forever but to date none have sprouted -- I pretty much have given up on even getting a small pair of Angel wings. I agree that it's not an attractive photograph in a conventional sense. I captured it because I found the image interesting to look at. That's what I'm sharing with you and others.

Re: Decrepit Pier
Indeed it is an interesting picure to be hung in a waiting room for people to study and let their eyes wander around it.
If you have an editor with layers and the Threshold tool I suggest you play with it but I think you will need to reduce the darkness of the piles and water by painting with a mid grey brush over that area.
Perhaps not your thing buit I like the starkness of a Thresholded image.
Something I have done a couple of times is to knock back the threshold to reveal the original tones such as here perhaps some of the foliage.
If you agree I could post examples of what I mean ?

Re: Decrepit Pier
juknz, like both images. One thing I learned from your images is to add more contrast to my image's wood wall. Nice.

Re: Decrepit Pier
Might the scene better suit a portrait format image, composed with about one third fence? E.g. -

Re: Decrepit Pier
Phillip, nothing wrong with your image. I like showing more of the pier and its various patterns.
