Can anyone give me a guide to that strap she's using. I hate neckstraps and have only ever used a wriststrap, but am wondering about adding something like this. I saw someone a few weeks ago using one, but was unable to stop him and ask him the name/brand etc.

Any of you folks using this sort of thing?

Well it's definitely a D600 then, rather than a 7000/7100

Different top plate and the D600/7000/7100 have a mode dial on the left with a smaller display on the right.

I use this type of strap and would never go back to a standard neck strap.

Donald, I use a strap from Sunsniper. It attaches to the camera at the tripod hole. It rests on your left shoulder and the camera hangs tight to the body at the right hip. When you bring the camera up to shoot, a ring glides along the strap bringing the camera up but the strap does not bunch up like a regular strap.

There seems to be no end to my learning struggle of matters photographic.

This weekend I have learnt more about sharpening and how to get it right, how to produce a gradient radial Gaussian blur mask layer in elements and why I have been failing in some of my macro lighting and thought I was getting there.

I find them a PITA to be honest Donald - every time I rotated the camera for a vertical shot, the strap would obscure the viewfinder.

I only use a hand strap now -- or for more robust sessions, a spider holster.

In all seriousness, I often put the lens hood on backwards for night shots. Typically I'll get a lens all focused up - flip to MF - flip the hood around - and not touch things from there. The reversed hood stops me bumping the focus ring in the dark.

Before I got it I wondered if I'd feel a bit like a cowboy with a 6 gun, but I've found it takes the weight of a 1D series and a 70-200/2.8 very comfortably - great for resting arms or freeing up a hand.

It actually lived up to the hype pretty well.

No Grahame, that is the way to use it when you are shooting into the sun! I think that thing on a Nikkor 70-200mm lens is there for protection and does not come off.
