I'm thinking that it would be more pleasing to the eye were it flipped horizontal and vertical.

Nice shot. I like the way the tree and the background frame the butterfly. I wouldn't flip it, the background and the stance of the butterfly would probably look wrong. I would try to compose the shot with the subject off centre though it might help the overall composition of the image. Good work.
