Never seen the sketch, so for me just a chance encounter of a couple of pedestrians walking under the outstretched fingers

I get the impression that woman is about to pick up one of the cars. Though the idea is terrific, the implementation doesn't work for me because the front car is too far forward and the rear car is too far to the viewer's right.

I think this is a great capture. I didn't at all get the impression that the fingers were going to pick up the cars. I got the idea that they were going to pick up the two pedestrians walking with umbrellas.

I love images like this that are planned and in which the photographer sees a sign or billboard and waits until the opportune time to capture the image. That entails both having patience and also having time to wait.

One nit-picking comment. The pedestrian walking away from the camera (image right) is a bit distracting to me. I played with removing her using the Spot Healing Brush Tool of Photoshop and I liked the change. I also liked cropping the image to a more narrow format, eliminating that third pedestrian. It is an either-or situation. But, IMO, your image is still quite nice as it stands...

Thanks for the positive comments. The poster is siutuated just off one of Glasgow's bussiest streets and it was a case of waiting and hoping suitable people would turn up. I was back today and took a few shots as the street was car free. Must admit, the space vacated by the cars appears to leave a hole and the idea is less effective.
