Karm, experimenting in photography is a good thing. I applaud you for your effort.

Re: Minimalist Expression (Lake and sky during golden hour)
I like the bold colours and the stark, centered composition.

Thanks Christina. I played with locating the horizon line both in the top and bottom thirds of the image and I liked it best dead center.

Thanks Bruce. For me, experimenting (my form of play) is the best way of learning.

Hi Karm,
It works. The horizon is slightly out but it works.

Very bold with lots of potential. Consider darkening the water considerably for a more dramatic presentation. Also consider removing the black dot (probably a distant bird) in the otherwise plain sky.

Re: Minimalist Expression (Lake and sky during golden hour)
I think the second version is far superior because the increased drama of the water complements the drama of the sky.
For me, this photo is an exploration of dual opposites -- cool and warm colors; textured and smooth. I think your shutter speed was too slow to stop the action of the water. If it had stopped it, you could have emphasized the texture in the water by using Local Contrast Enhancement and whatever method you would use to enhance texture. If you didn't use a polarizer (though it looks like you might have), you could also try that to bring out as much natural color in the water as possible. You might want to keep that in mind the next time you see a similar photo opportunity.

Very nice Karm. It is reminiscent of Hiroshi Sugimoto's seascapes - he intentionally used a centered horizon only his images were mono.

Nice complimentary colors. I like the second version with the darker sea, has more energy.

Re: Minimalist Expression (Lake and sky during golden hour)
Mike, good point on shutter speed. There are a couple of other things I screwed up when taking this picture that i would also change. I had about five to seven minutes of alternative beautiful skies and suns before the light show shut down due to lousy weather. I basically framed images and shot away -- not the most sophisticated of strategies.

Thanks Shane. I'll definitely look at Sugimoto's seascapes. I wanted to first develop this image in color before exploring a BW version of it. I took other pictures during this shoot that also lend themselves to either a color or BW development.
