The most obvious suggestion I can make for this is to level the shot.

Thanks for the link Dave. I'll keep those points in mind!
About the leveling: the shot is level: look at the pole on which the gull is sitting. It's the shape of the harbor (and maybe the perspective) that makes is seem tilted.

Nice use of selective focus, Rob. The bird really pops out of the image.
I also thought the image was tilted at first glance. That was until I saw that the crane is straight.

Thanks Mike. That tilting in pics is often misleading, especially when having such a vague BG.
