Thank you one and all. We've got to keep seeing this as a bit of fun. There were so many outstanding images (IMO) entered this month, that to pick three as being 'better' is very subjective. We could really have mounted an exhibition with this month's images.

Congratulations to Rodders and Donald. I agree that there were so many excellent photos in this month entries and making a vote on just 3 was quite difficult.

This was very difficult this month. The quality is outstanding and with such divers styles it gave me a headache. Still 3 very deserving winners (and two out of the top 3 images in my own line up)

    Hi,

    I congratulate the winners!

But... Eeeh: Which voting took place? Did I sleep during the voting? I never saw the possibility to enter my votes.

Votes were cast through the 'pm' system

The system, Henrik (and other newer members who may not be aware), is that we each send a personal message (PM) to Colin at the end of each month and he adds up the votes.

    We write the post number from the thread (e.g. #4 - 1st; #25 - 2nd, etc).

Colin sends out a personal message to a number of people (this was something started a few months ago) to remind us to vote. You can ask him to add you to the list. Of course, you don't have to subscribe to Colin's 'PM' service in order to be able to vote, but it is a good reminder.

    Hi Henrik,

As Donald and iPhillip mentioned, I send out a PM to people ... unfortunately though, it's not an automatically addressed message - it's just those on my contact list. I add people whom I see online, but some definately get missed - my apologies for that ... I've added you to my list now.

I also create a system-wide announcement which stays up for a couple of days, which should be visable at the top of each forum.

In terms of the actual voting process, I simply give points in a 3-2-1 system, and then add them up in a spreadsheet; to be honest, I wish there was a better way as I always feel a bit uncomfortable when one of my images wins, but the poll system is limited to 10 options ... and anyone who syspects any "foul play" is welcome to PM Sean "McQ" who can access all the PMs to verify the result.

    Hi Colin,

I am regularly getting your message, to cast my vote for the competition. But since I am not a good judge, I refrain from Voting. We understand how uncomfortable it is when you are also participating., and your entry wins.. But nobody should suspect you for this.
Here I would like to remind you all that I have noticed that some time when Photograph is posted for competition, sometimes there are comments, VERY GOOD... NICE... EXCELENT ETC.. This should be avoided

    Hi Ashwin,

In an ideal world, it might be better if these comments were not made in the thread, but we're here to encourage people and crucially, Colin removes them all while voting is in progress, so if you did vote*, you would not be influenced or distracted by the comments as they are no longer present. (They are put back later)

    * Your opinion is just as valid as mine or anyone elses, and it is not as if only you would be judging.

All we require is for you place YOUR top three choices in order and the fact that there are many other voters reduces any chance of an 'odd' result. Please do vote for January's competition.

    Cheers,

    Cheers,
I was refering only for the COMPETITION portion. It is Goodluck for this forum that there are so many KNOWLEDGEABLE persons, who are tirelessly trying their best to help fellow
Photographers or who ever is interested in photography to solve their problem, and guide
them with best of their ability..This itself is GREAT

Yours is a good suggestion. I will certainly vote for January competition and other competition, this is more particularly, because everybody looks differently for the same Photographs..

Bill Belknap once told me that a picture is only as good as the person viewing it thinks it is. It becomes a masterpiece only when the masses like it.

    Hi Colin,
Thank you for the information and concern.
In my mind I don't suspect anyone here of any - conscious - miscarriage. I admire the great work you, David and others put into the site ! My concern is that the proces ought to get automated to relieve you from a tedious task, but now I understand that such an approach would limit the monthly competition to 10 entries. (What the unconscious mind does is another matter.)

    Regards, Henrik

I think you are right. In this - unconscious - respect it has been proposed earlier, that the entries should be anonymous. But I understand that there are good arguments for the existing way of doing the competitions. So be it. Peace

    Regards, Henrik
