    Deception Pass Long Exposure Pano

150 second exposure using a Hitech 10 ND filter. I am not sure what this filter is doing to the color besides adding a lot of magenta color cast. Anytime I use this filter, I am better off with B&W conversion. I have used a Singh Ray Vari ND and have been able to recover the colors just fine. Has anyone had any experience with Lee Big Stopper?

Here is a piece of the pano from raw file

I like the black-and-white photo even better than the color photo in your other thread. Both are very nice!

And I agree with Mike too ! I would also like to see the pano in colour though, colour cast notwithstanding.

Ok, the newb just has to ask....150 seconds? It wasn't night so how do you set camera for this and not over expose?

    Nancy,

You probably missed that Jon explained in his first post that he used a "10 ND filter." That's short for a neutral density filter that reduces the amount of light entering the lens by 10 stops.

Thank you Mike. Thru viewfinder, it looks 'normal', but sensor is seeing very dark?
I am going to have to see 1 of these on a camera!

Jon: I have the Lee stopper has a blue cast and the B+W has a warm cast as I shot in raw I do not care, as the Singh Ray at 10 stop I do not know.

    Cheers:

I agree with Mike as well

Dave, I'm working on that color Pano, on a plus side I have three more overlapping frames that bring in the curve of the bay on the left, it's just a matter of exposure, 150 sec. in the shade was a bit under exposed.

    Christina, Thank you so much.

Nancy, your in luck, I happen to have a pic of my camera with the filter set up on Sunday. 10 ND from hitech and a .6 Graduated ND soft edge used on the sky. these where stacked one over the other. Composition, Focus ect must be set prior to installing the 10 ND filter to figure out exposure time and cross reference a chart for total exposure time. A timer release is a must or a release and a watch and patience

You cannot see through the 10ND filter at all very, very dark. sounds like allot but it's not that bad

Thank you Jon for the explanation and photo!
When I got my 1st digital, I promised not to jump into a lot of gear until I knew more. So filters are something I am looking at getting soon.
