Donald,
I find this photo most pleasing, the composition is terrific, the detail is captured tremendously well and exposure precise. I love the toning that you have used, it reminds me of what I seem to recall my old Dad calling a "Gold" toning in the old darkroon [wet printing] days. Regrettably I can't recall the proper name or detail of the process, but I love the tone it gives the B&W photos.
Excellent photo, your work is of a very high standard.
Congratulations.

Many thanks for your comments.
There were a couple of 'firsts' involved. As well as being my first day out with the Tokina lens, I converted this in the GIMP using the G'MIC filters B & W tool. As well as channel level sliders, it has 'channel 'smoothness' sliders. Don't know what they are about, so started playing with them. Still don't understand it, but pulling back the blue and green smoothness sliders, slightly, produced a softer, dreamier feel on the trees that I liked.
The tone is a Schildt Brown 01 tone sample downloaded from http://gimpguru.org/Tutorials/SampleToning/
