Re: What's that rule
Hi Chauncey,
Not that I have the time to learn anything new but these images are especially nice...no harsh shadows but they are not back-lit either, so how did you manage this?
Thank you.

Re: What's that rule
The bird images basically had the light shinning on it's face and back when the images were taken.
I just waited until swan's rotation made it facing the sun as it filtered though the foliage and clouds.
The deer was reflected light with the lens f/2.8, SS 1/30, ISO 400...I set things up in manual mode
live view so as to expose to the right. Those deer don't move much when they're focused in on
something...his nose is in focus and his rear end is OOF.
All of them had some PP added into the equation...faux HDR>S&H>numerous other layers in CS6.
FYI here's a 800 px crop of the cormorant

Re: What's that rule
Thank you for sharing. Truly appreciated. At this moment in time layers are not my favourite thing to hear about but I do intend to learn how to use them.
The pose in the first shot is precious and facial expression as seen in your crop of the Cormorant is magical...!

First and third images are truly awesome....
In the second you gain at one point but fatally missed the head
Last one is hmmm....
Regards with care

Re: What's that rule
Last time I was in the States a buck with two does stopped in the middle of the road and I thought for a moment he was going to attack the car. Mentioning this to a backwoods resident he told me to switch off my lights as that is what attracts / threatens? the deer. It was early morning and I did have my lights on.

Re: What's that rule
1 &3 for me as well Chauncy. There is a curious bokey to the background of the 3rd image. Is that processing or the lens?

Re: What's that rule
Chauncey, that deer shot is gorgeous, I prefer the original because of the lighting and natural colour..
