Jodi looking great in 1940s outfit
A recent foray into a 1940s theme shoot with Jodi Newton.
More details on my blog post about using my Canon 600-EX-RT Speedlites on-location.
So I went back to my original and tried the Remco's suggestions.
Looks better! Thanks

Very nice Peter. A good choice for b&w. It has just enough light on the background to reinforce the location. For me I find the amount of light on the small of her back and also the rim light to be too bright and pulls my attention away from her face. Perhaps the amount of light on the bottom of the lamp shade too but I'd need to see that adjustment before I could tell. Because you have done a great job of lighting and catching the details of the dress I wouldn't raise the main but rather reduce the other two. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Andrew,
Excellent suggestions. I agree with you. One stop hotter for the backlight was perhaps a bit much. I should have dialed it down a notch or else toned it down in post. If I had more time at the shoot, I would have tweaked the backlight. Unfortunately I was shooting this with 2 other photographers and it is always so rushed in those situations.

Excellent photo Peter. I like the mood it coveys with the lighting concept used and the choice of Black and White.

thanks Dave for taking the time to write. I wish I had more than 30 mins but sometimes that's all you get. We had to move outdoors after I shot this hurriedly

Re: Jodi looking great in 1940s outfit
There' one thing that disturbs me a bit:
there's this big lamp over the billiard, seemingly lit, but no corresponding light patch on the table, just the highlight on the lower back of Jodi.
If that hanging lamp wasn't there, the picture would be very interesting, with it in frame, there's a contradiction.

Re: Jodi looking great in 1940s outfit
My first thought was "Jessica Rabbit." So you definitely created a very striking image. I agree that the hair light's too strong, and I think the pool table looks better when dark. The setting's important, to be sure, but the pool table is not the point of this shot. There's a bit of a light gradient on the wall behind her, which leads my eye off to the left. Not a major issue, but easy to clean up.
In addition, thank you for not posing her with a pool cue. High cheeseball factor there.
