For me, basic framing, exposure and sharpness are fine; but I would have preferred either the children to be looking upwards a bit more or for you to have shot from a lower angle. That would have been a prizewinner.

But with most of this type of impromptu photo, thinking time is limited so all you can do is to click the shutter and hope for the best.

Yeah, it was definitely one of those quick moment shots...not a whole lot of preparation or fine-tuned posing, just "smile!" and as you say, click the shutter and hope for the best.
