Kelby has a definite Photoshop / Lightroom direction to it, while Lynda.com is much broader and handles many subject areas and topics outside of pure photography.
The only thing that they both have in common is PS/LR...Lynda.com has soo much more.
I've had both...now it's only Lynda.![]()
Kelby for me - phenomenally talented photographers leading you through very diverse subject matters (fashion, real estate, studio, models, sports, vehicles, dance, family portraits, children ... You name it).
Thank you all.
I am looking mainly for Studio portrait photography(but not limited to) and Photoshop and Lightroom only.
thank you again.

Last few days I have been quiet here at CiC because I just signed up for Lynda.com and am learning Photoshop CC and ACR 8, both of which seemed to have more coverage at "Lynda" than at "Kelby".
I am finding it useful to view different authors' take on these apps, as they each* have a different way of coming at things and seeing them all allows me to choose which might suit me best.
* e.g. Julieanne Kost, Chris Orwig and Deke McClelland
As my knowledge increases, it is also useful revision to see if I can correctly guess the answers to the problems posed and relate the keyboard short cuts before they appear on screen.

Can i suggest another place i am currently learning dreamweaver photoshop from. its creative edge.com. They have for a monthly subscription hundreds of books videos and all the exercise lessons so u can work along. i tried lydia then came across creative edge. They have stacks of books as if u were in a book shop. if i looked at one for photosehop and didnt like it u cango and look at another. i thiñk its another good excellant one stop training site. well worth a wander over to.
Thank you very much to everyone who gave his opinion. I really appreciate it.
any more comments or suggestions please?
Thank you in advance.
If studio photography techniques and lighting as well as post processing is your interest, I'd definitely vote for Kelby. The tutors he uses are generally top notch photographers in their field with vast experience and good teaching skills. The list of valuable courses is pretty long with some very worthwhile ones indeed.
Interestingly I find Kelby himself to be one of the most hit and miss of the tutors, with others being outstandingly good, but that might just be me.
I've used both and I'd say Lynda is much more software oriented and not limited to photographic software, but for your requirements go for Kelby. The latter is much better for photography lessons in all genres. Of course you can try both and decide. I'm pretty sure they do trials; don't know if they still do but if not or if you want a longer trial it only costs a month's money to have a month's perusal![]()

William Scott: your opinion is great; clear and to the point. I will go for Kelby for one month trial.
Thank you very much to you and to everybody who commented on this thread.
