Reflecting Grass

When I was away for a week recently, I seem to have focused (sorry) my attention on reflections. Couldn't really avoid them because I was in the midst of some of the finest of Scotland's scenery. The others were of trees and mountains and were featured in earlier threads. But in this case I managed to switch my attention away from the 'bigger picture' and see some things in more detail.

As Phil (dubaiphil) said in this thread, "Every now and then you walk around a corner and it just clicks." Well, that was the case here. I was walking along the shoreline of Loch Garten and upon seeing these grasses, immediately saw the image I wanted to make.

Whether you think it's any good or not is another matter and I'd be interested in your critical analysis and comment.

A really nice idea and it is very effective. Looking at it though, I keep wondering if selecting (in the camera) just one clump of grasses to simplify the comp would have increased the impact. Nice image none the less.

I think I'm with John on this. A smaller clump would have more impact.

I think this is something similar as to what I have been trying to accomplish for the last few months, every time it rained and there were puddles in the yard.
So far, every effort turned into a disappointment. It's raining again today, maybe I'll try again.

I really like this picture. However, in contrast to John and George, I wonder whether a wider crop would be better, particularly at the left and bottom. There are three clumps there and the bottom left one needs more space to look out and would look more comfortable without its feet cut off. This is a subjective opinion of course.

I like the 'simplicity' off the lower 2/3 off the image.
Iff you take the right 2/3 off the image, remove the 'clutter' in the top, turn it 90°CW, You end up with what might be 'something different'....

Donald, great photo. I like the size it conveys, it's elegant, the B&W works. Simple things can be great subjects now and then. The reflection in the lower left corner could have been cropped a bit wider maybe, but that will depend on what you photographed.

What I have come to realise in photography is that anything beautiful makes a beautiful image. No matter how you shoot the face of a lovely lady, the end result will be beautiful.
Nature is beautiful and it is impossible to get an “ugly” shot of nature. Some might be more pleasing than others but they are all beautiful.

When in a spot like the one you captured this image, with that feeling of tranquility and peace surrounding you, how can you not be inspired by it’s sheer beauty. Tranquility is the first word I can think of when looking at this image. Now imagine a duck swimming into that tranquility.

It's always good when an image prompts a variety of reactions/comments. I think we learn much more when that is the case. So, thankyou everyone for taking the time to post their thoughts. Even when you end up not agreeing with what people have thought/suggested, it would be a fool who does not carefully consider those comments and seek to learn from them for the future.

PS.: A simple/random snapshot of this, although the beauty itself was always there, would not have caused the same impact that your image did here!
