Devils Tower . . . not sure if this photo really works or not??

I am really on the fence about this photo, I can't decide if I really like it or not so I thought I would post it here and see what everyone else thinks. Please let me know. Thanks.

You've certainly been in some dramatic landscapes recently. For me I prefer your more 'foggy' one in an earlier post (even though it made we want to see behind the fog. I would crop some of the grass foreground and maybe make a square photo (for some reason I currently like square photos

Thanks for your input, I am really having a love/hate relationship with the foreground. Without the foreground I think the photo is dull and maybe a little ordinary, with the foreground sometimes I think it could be distracting -- Thanks again for looking.

Yes, cropping the foreground, but not losing it entirely would be my starting point.

At the moment there is a conflict between the foreground and background with both competing to be the 'main attraction'.

And there is a problem with scale. It appears as though you either have giant grass or miniature trees. There isn't a gradual perspective fade here.

Certainly a scene which is worth a bit more experimentation.

I agree with Geoff. Crop most of the foreground and especially whatever that object is on the right in the grass.

I've been there several times, both near and far and in both summer and winter. This is as good a shot as any I've seen.

As to the crop suggestion, that's one opinion. Mine is that the foreground adds depth to the image and conveys the height of the obelisk better than without the foreground. I wouldn't change it!

Looks like you pushed up the saturation and contrast a touch where were going to be my suggestions. I think your grass crop could be taken up to just where the slight demarcation between light and dark occurs. . Did you add a slight vignette? I like the effect (I have no real consistency in my preferences for vignetting, I'm in a pro-vignetting phase at present).

By cropping, the focus of attention felt on the tower; otherwise it was divided more in favor of the foreground
