Kurilpa Bridge
This is a foot and cycle bridge across the Brisbane River of controversial design, hated by many. It is a tensegrity structure but as such not as interesting as others.

Re: Kurilpa Bridge
Hmmm, it is a bit of a "bird's nest" in this view
Regarding your shot, although the lit colour does a fair job separating the superstructure from the background, I still find it quite a busy image as the background is also sharp. Plus, being a night image, I am having trouble understanding the structure; are the two decks, or deck and roof one above the other?
Sorry if that's not much help,

Re: Kurilpa Bridge
Like Dave, I find the background detracts from the impact a bit and confuses the structural elements. Is it possible to shoot the bridge from the opposite side, or would that background even busier?

Re: Kurilpa Bridge
Thanks for all your replies - most helpful. I set myself the task of developing a photo-documentary of the bridge, just out of personal interest. I have found it extremely difficult to get a clear view of the bridge. Most of the pictures have had a confusing background and/or foreground. This one is clearer than the first that I showed, although perhaps not as pretty.

This shows the walkway with the roof over half of it

The design of the superstructure has some engineering interest with its floating compression members which are characteristic of tensegrity structures, but it is not as elegant nor as pure as others such as the Needle Tower.

Re: Kurilpa Bridge
Never seen anything that complex for so little weight carrying capacity, no wonder we couldn't work out the structure!
That's quite a challenge you set yourself Tony
Thanks for the alternative views.

Re: Kurilpa Bridge
The image is well done, but it's a bit busy for my taste.

Re: Kurilpa Bridge
My first reaction to your original post was to want to see the bridge from another angle - you're right it is a great structure but it isn't lending itself to the great photo because of its surroundings. What does it look like at night from other angles ?
Good luck with the project - I look forward to seeing more
