    Wildebeest in Madikwe Game Reserve

In the first one, if I had been shooting at 5 or 6 frames per second instead of 3, I might have gotten a shot with all four feet off the ground. The second one required a speed of only 1 frame every 10 seconds.

    Love it!

I was trying to imagine that first one with all four feet off the ground. I'm not sure it would have been as good. I think the angle of that front-right leg gives the picture power and energy.

A couple of beauties (the pictures that is!).

Great shots - you've made an 'ugly' animal look photogenic

If just one of my photos of warthogs earns the same high praise, that will be the ultimate compliment. Warthogs are really ugly critters!

Hi Mike, I like the first one and you've caught the animal at just at the right moment. The second one reminds me of the Wildebeeste pictures that I have where it is difficult to pick up the eye, due to the brown eye and brown/black face. I notice a white spot in the eye is that natural light? Also a colour change between the two pictures where the second one is better as it shows the coat better with a lovely texture. Well done.

    Thanks, Clive!

The white spot in the eye of the second wildebeest isn't a catch light. It's other material in the corner of its eye. To answer your question about whether anything other than natural light was used, it wasn't. The different color of the two photos is explained by the fact that they were taken two days apart in completely different light.

Nope, the warthog is truly ugly, despite that your capture emphasizes what little beauty it has. I'm envious of your buffalo shot in the water.
