Rainy Day, Cuyahoga Vally Waterway (BW)

I wanted to capture how dreary everything felt this particular day. I've tried this shot previously but was never satisfied with what I achieved. This one captures both the mood outside and my mood.

    Comments welcomed.

    Hi Karm,

Sorry to hear about your mood, which I think you have captured but could push it a little more... I don't know much about this type of photography, if anything at all, but since you haven't received many comments I will give it a try.

I like this image when I crop it 16 x9 a little below the dead tree trunk at the top of the image, and I wonder if you lightened it just a tad (to bring out the starkness of the bare trees) and sharpened it more if it would convey not only a dreary mood, but also a very eerie feeling, which I think would be neat.

Hey Karm, I like this photo mainly because of its starkness, and depth.

There's other crops I could have used including the one you suggest. The other crop I considered seriously is to bring the bottom of the image up below the reflection of the stump. The crop I used is designed to give the viewer a stronger sense of the water pathway.

I'll try your suggestion to lighten the image. I probably chose the amount of light I used to maintain detail in the back of the waterway which is naturally light.

Thanks Bruce. Starkness and depth was exactly what I was going for.

    Hi Karm,

Sorry, I had to rush out, and I should've started by saying that I see another image in this image which I think would be a really neat image, pushing your original idea to the extreme... at least in my imagination... that doesn't mean it will work...

And I forgot to say, wonderful depth of field which I see in all of your images and hope to learn to do one day, too.

Hi Shadowman, waterway opens up to a nice marsh with lots of birds, turtles, bluegills, and bass.

Christina, please don't be apologetic for any comment you direct towards me. I'm looking for feedback and opinions on my images. The image you see in my image is perfectly okay -- it's just not the one I chose to show. I like it when a viewer tells me he or she sees something different than what I presented. It makes me look again at my work -- which is always a good thing.

Thank you Karm... I'm trying to learn how to be more helpful to others and after my comment (and rushing out the door) I realized that I was sharing a vision I created in my imagination for your photo, which is your vision/photo not mine... I have quite the imagination so perhaps I will just have to try something like your photo one day, but it will be more eerie...
