    I do hope that you took additional pictures of this fawn as you seem to have missed focus on this one...background is clear but fawn seems soft. What does it look like at 100%?

    Foliage in top right corner is sharp. Head of deer is acceptably sharp.

    Possibly the auto focus set on the closest and most sharp edged object. I prefer centre focus (or a centre cluster) for shots like this.

    F 7.1 is possibly a fraction on the shallow side, but should just about be sufficient if focused correctly.

    And yes, I would also crop slightly closer.
