Like I said on Facebook - Fantastic image.

But ......... Am I seeing a little post-processing induced curved banding in the dark areas at the bottom of the image, or is that just a feature of life underwater?

    Re: Underwater Photographer

I don't follow underwater photography but I don't remember seeing a photo like this in black-and-white. I like this a lot!

I wonder if you could get some more definition and impact in the air bubbles by selecting them and applying an aggressive S-curve. I have found that doing that to the white part of an ocean wave brings out lots of detail that otherwise would not be displayed.

John, thanks for the compliment, and taking the time to comment.

Donald, thank you very much for your critique, and for commenting on FB too, I really appreciate it. As for the banding, as far as I can tell with my limited experience in editing UW photos, this is next to unavoidable. I'm not yet sure why it happens, but it's noticeable SOOC. I'll do some research to find exactly what is happening. It is quite noticeable in silhouette shots, where the sun is used as a back light. I'm also unsure of how to get rid of it.

Hey Mike, thanks a bunch for your feedback, I know underwater photography is not for everyone, and it attracts a limited audience, so I'm glad you took the time to comment. Fantastic advice! It worked like a charm! I can add that to my toolbox of tricks to use for bubbles from now on.
