I shot this on auto macro. there does seem to be a bit of 'noise'? But the colours and the composition seem to grab me.

There's some noise (look at the shadows), but I think that part of what looks like noise in the main subject is actually the texture of the plant.

Very interesting image, is it the tip of a young shoot?

these plants 'flower' for about 6 months and this is about 2 to 3 months old. By the end of it's life it will turn dark red. The attached photo is not the same plant but it does show the full size which is about 18 to 24 inches tall. The blossoms come out from between the semi circles and are spotted.

same plant but with blossoms and because it is young it is green the blossoms will stay and change as the plant gets older

    Hi Brian.

Don't know if you are looking for suggestions or not, but I will assume that you are. The hotspots on both plants detract from the beauty of the plants. It might have been a better image if you reduced the exposure and used fill flash to capture these, although I will say I like the back lighting showing the translucence of the, as you said, semi-circles. Another alternative would have been to wait until the there was no direct Sun shining on the plants, or by shielding the direct sunlight with something like a piece of cardboard.

I am always looking for suggestions. I am still at the point where playing with settings is scary but your suggestions will be used when the time comes.

here is a shot i took today without direct lighting and i agree it brings out the beauty. I have done no processing as of yet.

Wonderful subject to photograph. Beautiful plant. I like the 2nd image, and also the last image for the perspective, detail and nice colour, and sharp focus.

these ginger plants take about 6 months from shoot to falling apart and the colours constantly change.

Yes, Brian, you can see more details. Of course it is a different viewpoint, but the bright hotspots are gone. Keep up the good work.
