Amazing image, but not quite as amazing at the woman on top!
Beautiful colour and exposure, and one has to adore the plume of smoke.
I wish the image were a little closer in but I expect that might be hard to do. Actually I would very much enjoy hearing how you captured this wonderful image.
You could get away with a little bit of crop from the sides and use a different image ratio to show more detail.
The shutter speed is a fraction fast which has frozen the propeller. I usually reckon on 1/320 being maximum to avoid this. But that can cause problems when shooting with large lenses.
But plenty of sharply focused detail here, and good exposure.
Christina thanks for your comments. I had my camera on my tripod, taking this, which is a Manfrotto 055CX PRO4 and with a Manfrotto MH057 MO-Q5 Ball head, this is great for panning, the reason I bought this combination. Just followed the subject and captured the image when in right position.
Geoff, spot on with the prop speed, I think I never changed my ss from capturing a faster flying jet beforehand. As for the crop, I usually like a tight crop but this time I wanted to get the smoke trail in. As for your point on the aspect ratio, if I am putting the image on a site like this I normally use the "no constraint' ratio.
Dave.
Ever try a Dutch Tilt with your air shots Dave?
Dutch Tilt.
Often seen done in sports, auto/motorcycle racing, action shots, etc.
Sometimes it gives a more dynamic look to a shot.
Anyway, just curious Dave!
Nice capture...no advice to add to what has already been said...you did well!
