    Butterfly eyes

I spent last Saturday on a macro photography course...... 300 photos later, here are 2 I am pleased with, a ratio I am fast learning is normal (for me anyway). A bonus to the day was I learned where to find the eyes on a butterfly - everyday is a school day !

Hope you like them, suggestions for improvement most welcome.

Second image is tack sharp with good composition and you know the subject is the butterfly, flower is a bit overblown but good effort. The first image the two wings are oof and you need either to get in closer or a lower f stop, but again a good effort.

Very good first efforts and you should soon get the knack of it.
Each part of a butterfly has its own beauty as you will soon learn.

Hope to see more of your work.

Thanks for sharing Kaye. True beauties, and the sharpness and DOF on the 2nd butterfly is amazing.

    Looking forward to seeing more!

Funny, but I love the first one just as it is. I don't think you need to have the whole butterfly in focus, unless of course that's what you intended and missed it. Your image just brings that much more attention to that interesting eye.

The yellow in the second is a bit overwhelming, I think but it is a nice shot.

    Re: Butterfly eyes

Thank you all for looking and comments. I am interested in the 'all in focus or not debate'...to be honest I was mostly concerned with the eyes on the day as well as experimenting with DOF. From your comments it looks like it goes down to personal preference/intention which is fine. Will continue practising...
