No 1. And you knew the choice would be obvious.
No.1 is the Best
Roger,
Firstly, they are both exceedingly good images and you have captured that 'moment' well.
Although they are similar as you say there are of course different degrees of similarity and having given the two some thought I have to say that No 2 is my preference.

Thanks Grahame for the vote.
#1 for me but both are lovely. The beauty of the flower and butterfly are in closer view in image 1 but the bokeh in image 2 is a little dreamier..
This pair of shots are sort of interesting to me; #1...my initial thought was that the butterfly was added in post processing, it seemed too sharp. Upon a closer look it is clear that is not so, you caught the butterfly's wing at the near perfect focus......#2....not as sharp of focus on the butterfly, but the relative composition is more pleasant to my eye. Composition wins this round
Roger,
On my first post I deliberately omitted the reasoning behind my choice because I wanted to see what others would say.
Comparing the two, No 1 whilst a capture we would all love to achieve to me was the text book image that we would want or expect to see whereas No 2 is different and at the same time more pleasing on the eye in my opinion. My thought process often considers which image would I want to see hanging on my wall as a picture.

Both are lovely shots but #1 for me too.
That said, I do like the butterfly's position in #2. Now if #2 was #1... that would be one heck of an image.
BUT... if only we could choose placement.
Really ----- both are really good images.
