    Bornean Orangutans...

The weather dawned cool yesterday in Florida so it seemed like a good day for a trip to the zoo. Tampa is home to the Lawry Park Zoo and while the variety of animals is not as extensive as some zoos it is worth a visit. Fencing and screening prevented photographing many of the animals the Orangutans were easily captured. C&C welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for viewing.

    Hi Joe,

To be objective giving reasonable comment I would need to know if you purposefully enhanced exposure in Post.

In the second image you will notice the left thumb vanishing into an “overexposed” background.

In No3 the texture in the old man’s face and on his hands and the colour of the hair of the Orang-utans’ seem to “flow away”.

If you will permit me to post “reworks” you will understand what I mean.

Lovely to see you outside your bird stronghold.

I don't think the histogram indicated over-exposure. I do note the use of the quotation marks to suggest that actual over-exposure is not what is meant. But I don't see that part of the image as in any way detracting from the rest of it, which i think is a superb work of photography. The detail in the coat and in the lines on the face, are remarkable. A master-class in sharpening.

I do like the set very much.

    Hi Joe,

Looks much better now, after the edit. The patch where the left thumb disappeared in does not matter showing more detail now, we all know it was shot in a zoo and not in the bush. It is impossible to get the same results as the Pros’ spending time with Orang-utans in the bush.

There is much more detail in the textures in the third image now. Even in the first image where you removed the “overexposed” blot behind the head is much better now.

    They all look good now!

    Well done.

If that's what's been done, then my first comment is probably based on seeing the edited versions and not the originals, which no longer appear.

Remarkable expressions on the animals' faces and nuance in their hands. The tonal variation in the hair in the last two animals is so exquisite.

I would prefer the first one to be cropped very tightly, though take that from someone who would almost always prefer that style.

Hello Andre, thank you for viewing and commenting. I have edited the images regarding your suggestions and reposted. Another set of eyes sees what I may not see, much appreciated.

My apologies if I messed you up by posting edited versions. I intended to note in a post to Andre that I had edited and reposted but became distracted failing to do so. Thank you for viewing and commenting.

Hello Mike, thank you for viewing and commenting. When capturing the images I was struck by how human they seemed by their expressions and tenderness. The day was overcast which provided wonderful light for capturing the nuances in the tones.

Below I have posted a tighter crop of the first image. I like your suggestion.

I like the tighter crop much better, Joe. If it were mine, I would go even tighter, probably requiring a different aspect ratio, but that's mostly a reflection of my affinity for tight crops.
