he was walking across the floor so I moved him up to the table. Needed back lighting but it was taken in late afternoon in the house. had as quick a shutter speed as posssible and the detail is reasonable?

    Hi Brian,

Focus seems sharpest on the furthest legs with the foreground legs and body being soft, I'll just say that I treat my similar mis-focused captures like this (and there are many) as a learning experience and try again.

A bit of fill light (e.g. from a bit of white paper) from camera side to lighten the shadows would be nice too.

    Hope that helps,

Hi Dave, it was a learning experience. The first thing I learned was do not put a brown bug on a brownish table with a varnished surface. #2 was that with my software a seriously under exposed photo can become useable. #3 was that I need to find the aiming point for focus.

I am using the cross but if it is out just a fraction it moves the focus a lot. You wouldn't happen to know a way to reduce the thickness of the cross?
