Do you have a composition in which everything remains the same but the top of the vertical thing in the back of the boat remains in the background water? Regardless, there is a halo, perhaps caused by sharpening, on the right side of the boat.

Thanks so much for your comment, Mike. I actually did not sharpen at all based on the valuable feedback I've getting on this forum over the past couple of weeks. Any idea as to how I can avoid the halos? In post, I just increased the vibrance and contrast a bit and cropped the image on both sides. Then, I worked a bit on the shadows in order to draw the viewer's eye from the boat to the setting sun.

I've just started experimenting with landscapes and it has been super foggy, and although I love the light of the fog I'm truly not sure about the images I've taken yet... Some with the Sigma 18-50 which seem soft but its foggy, and yesterday I took a few from the top of a mountain with my Nikon 28-200 mm. ie; I don't know if the softness is the fog, my lens or my focal point. Once I find time to work on them a little and figure out what to do with them in PP I will post for feedback.

You mentioned that you're not doing any sharpening during post-processing. Is it possible that you are using sharpening in your camera settings? As an example, if you are using a Nikon Picture Control, it will have sharpening unless you have custom set the sharpening value to zero.

It's also possible that your master image doesn't have any sharpening but the routine that you use to downsize your images for display on the Internet has some sharpening. As an example, I always use a batch process to do that for my images and every once in a while it produces a halo that wouldn't occur if I had custom sharpened for web display.

Having said that, if your master image has no halo, I wouldn't worry about the image being displayed here unless you intend to submit it for a competition or something similar.
