    Door

This is the door and faux-rock metal siding of Junction Schoolhouse, where President Lyndon Baines Johnson began his education at age 4. It is located in the LBJ Ranch/Texas White House national park just outside Johnson City, Texas. Shot with Olympus E-PL2 and 14-42mm kit lens. Monochrome conversion via Topaz BW Effects to emphasize pattern and detail:

I love the repetition of patterns in the cement block wall contrasted with wood grain of the door. However, the only thing that distracts me a bit is the triangular shadow at the bottom image left. It sort of interferes with the repetition of the blocks...

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment. I have thought about lightening the tree shadow so it's less noticeable, and may do so.

    Great picture Tom.

The star of the picture is the texture. The contrast between the pattern of the bricks and the wood grain of the door is compelling. I agree with Richard, though. I'd try to clone or patch out the shadow on the bottom right.

I also initially thought that the weed at the bottom of the stairs was distracting, but now I think not. To me it actually adds a bit of character to the image.

    Well done!

I would think a simple clone of a square of bricks would do the trick, also the shadow to right of step, and the clump of grass needs attention? Unless you want to suggest that nature takes over eventually.

    Fabulous texture!

For me, I can't tell whether the subject is the door or the faux stonework. I would prefer a crop, perhaps a square, that results in everything to the left and right of the door being about the same dimension as the area above the door. Doing so will also solve the issue of the shadow in the bottom left corner even though some of that shadow will remain.

I love the clump of weeds at the bottom of the image.

Thanks to all for the thoughtful comments. Upon further consideration, I've decided to let it alone for a while and come back to it with a refreshed eye.
