Fall Colors at Tremont

This past weekend I went over to the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont, just outside Townsend Tennessee. The trail to the middle prong of the Little Pigeon River starts about 3 miles up from the welcome center. I hiked about a half mile from the start of the trail, and stopped a few times on the way to get these shots.

The subject in all these shots is the fall color. I wanted to capture as many colors as possible, and in PP I tried to add just enough contrast, vibrance, and saturation to make the colors look good.

Your photos make this kind of photography look easy even though I know it's not. You've done an excellent job of clearly defining the subjects, knew how to take advantage of the perfectly diffused light, and post-processed the files to produce rich yet natural colors. Though all of the photos are very nice, I have a particular fondness for photo #4 simply because I like that style of photography.

Hi Cliff.

#2, #3 and #4 are about the fall colors. The intense colors immediately draw the eye toward the trees and leaves. I think you met your goal with these three.

I interpret #1 as being about the rocks and water as viewed in the fall. A subtle difference from a subject of fall time. The rocks and water are where my first goes and always returns. The greens and yellows of the trees in the background are colorful and interesting, but to me, not the main subject. Having said that, I do like the image. It is one of nature's beauties.

I interpret #5 much the same as #1. The water with the contrasting rocks is the subject. The trees show where the brook is located (give it a context) and the colors of the trees tell us it is fall time. Once again, it is a wonderful image and shows nature's beauty very well.

All the images are keepers and worthy of framing.
