    Dave,

This image is fantastic. Incredible detail on the flower and the bee, and a suggestion of motion on the wings. I love it.

The only thing I'd try is to add a vignette.

    Wonderful! Well done.

    Dave,

I assume this is an example of getting that DoF just perfect. Superb shot, thanks for sharing.

I would crop tighter and use a different size ratio to reduce that confused and distracting area at the bottom. This would then concentrate more on the main subjects.

Is this better Geoff, you like your cropping, I must admit it does emphasise the bee more.

Ok that is one tough shot to get. Seriously, birds are easy compared to insects.

That crop has certainly reduced the distracting foreground. I suppose a 3 x 2 ratio and keeping the full width wouldn't quite work.

I often try several different versions before making a decision; and frequently end up keeping a couple of alternatives. The worry about close cropping comes with future uses, which is why I always retain the Raw files.

Sometimes an image will look right at a particular size but some time later I need to use it for a particular project which requires a specific size ratio, even if that wasn't my first choice.
