Trying to see what converts well. Thought this might work, because there seemed a lot of structure in the trees. Converted using Silver Efex Pro with quite high structure, and a blue filter added to selectively darken the trees. Comments or re-work very welcome.

Which filter on Silver Efex is this, sir? Number 6 perhaps? Great shot.

A rather 'confused' scene in B&W but looks a lot better at full screen size.

Would it be possible to lose a fraction of the sky and show more water? Or did you crop tight to hide something unwanted?

Thanks Murat, very kind. I started with one of the high structure filters, can't remember which one, and then played with the sliders. Of course, the problem with a pixel modifier like Silver Efex you can't re-create exactly what you did unless you take a screen shot, or something.

Yes, Geoff, I think you are right - I just hadn't seen it. I'm not sure about cropping, but here is the original colour picture. I prefer it in colour, but that isn't the point - I was trying to find images that look good in B&W. The idea in the colour image is that the red flowers on the vine provide a focus, but that gets lost in the conversion. You can see it, but it doesn't help. Maybe it would be interesting to just keep the red in the B&W, but I'll have to find out how to do that. Thanks,

    Dave

Beautiful images... I usually prefer colour but I really like this one in B&W, not that I know anything about B&W but I think it is beautiful.

Just a quick thought about playing around with the colours (mostly reds and yellows) in the original colour image when converting to B&W

Vary the amount of colour adjustment to suit your individual taste.
