    Birds

    Some old some new shots.

#1 Got this shot about three months ago it was great I seen the bird land about a half an hour before I was going to leave but I was trying to get some Great Egret shots (which I did) and didn't bother with him. As I was going to leave I pondered walking over to the Heron due to they are abundant and I have a lot of shots of them, but as a addicted photographer I walked over. Well as approaching he didn't turn the other way but kept progressing towards me which I thought was weird so I set the tripod and set the settings and he slams his beak in the dirt and I proceed to get about 25 shots of him stalking, striking, yanking the gofer from the ground, shaking him around and devouring him it was great!

#2 This shot was taken on the cuff I was watching other birds and this one flew in and I got off three shots of which the first two trash but this one I don't know what happened but I like it, looks as if there was a flash but I didn't have my flash on.

Wonderful images! How in the world do you manage to capture so many images of wildlife in action, ie; ospreys and herons feasting... Do you wait for the moment for hours on end with extraordinary patience?

Christina, Sorry for the late reply I was down in San Diego (got some good shots) but it's basically time spent doing it, I go out almost every day and shoot so somethings bound to happen. Plus I live in a really great spot on the waters edge in San Pedro CA so I get a whole peninsula of places to go to from Redondo Beach through Palos Verdes to San Pedro which have a lot of wildlife.

Stunning images and everyone tack sharp and the first image the gofer is almost as big as the bird. How many stops do you loose with the 1.4xlll converter on that lens as I have the same lens.

    Re: Birds

Hi Roger: Thanks for sharing these great shots. I really am inspired by the amazing bird photographers on this site. I am always bemoaning the fact that I can't seem to find too many birds of prey around here. I should probably follow your advice and spend more time patiently waiting for them to find me. I absolutely HATE rodents, so these shots do not disturb me in the least.
