Remote triggering - Yongnuo (560 III) and Canon 70D

I recently took possession of a set of 4 Yongnuo 560 III flash units and a Canon 70D (and legally ).
The flash units have built in radio triggers and I use a trigger (rf-602) on camera.
I have the trigger and the flash units set to the same channel.

When I use the camera/flashes (everything manual mode) and using the viewfinder (optical), the units trigger as per expectation. No problems here.

HOWEVER, when I put the camera into liveview mode, the flash units don't trigger (seconds before it works in optical viewfinder mode, no changes to anything except switching to liveview).

I haven't had time to try as a tethered system (wireless or cable) as yet so I don't know if there is an issue there.

Anybody have ideas as to what I am doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance.
    Graham

Good question. I too had that experience but did not check around for an answer as I do not use flash much.

    Have a guess :)

I think Kathy is probably the best to answer that question -- perhaps consider sending her a PM if she doesn't see this thread and reply.

Re: Remote triggering - Yongnuo (560 III) and Canon 70D

i have the same flashes, and others previously, and never does it fire in live view, not even the pop up flash will fire in live view on my 60D, which leads me to believe you can not use the flash in live view. Unsure of the reason that is, but it hasnt bothered me personally as the times i do use live view is to check for compositions and focus when shooting still objects when the camera is placed on the tripod, and when im ready to take the shot i get out of live view.

    Graham,

I have the same issue on my Canon (550D), It does not work tethered either. I follow the same procedure as Allen with live view.

I should add that if you go over to Flash Havoc there is a heap of helpful information on the YN products.

Re: Remote triggering - Yongnuo (560 III) and Canon 70D

    Thanks all for the input.

Currently sitting at a table playing with tethered (first time, and already loving it - but that's a whole new thread).

Thanks Rob for the link to Flash Havoc. A new site and I will be investigating it (also Strobist perhaps).
Allen and Rob, just tried Live View with on camera flash - it flashed.
Tried it with the Yongnuo with the camera in Live View in all variation I could think off.
I tried it (making sure it was set to M and no wireless), no flash, but I cycled round the various options (S1, S2, Wireless) and tried those - still no flash.
I even tried it ON the radio transceiver when it was attached to the camera - still no joy.
Taking flash off camera, transceiver ON camera (still on Live View) - no light.

Over to tethered - transceiver on camera. Camera automatically switches OFF Live View. Everything works fine, I get light when I want light (now I just need to work on how much and where ).
BUT - when I activate tethered Live View - back to the same old problem.
So, I can compose in Live View, but have to disengage for flash to work.
    Hope that all made sense.

Colin, thanks for the suggestion. One more question. Who is Kathy? (I've been AWOL for a while).

    Thanks again.

grahem, when using live view the pop up flash works? If so you should be able to trigger your yn-560iii's in slave mode. If you dont want the pop up flash to interfear with the image you can select the out put of the cameras flash to its lowest in the menue, just go to the flash options and change the flash mode to manual and from there you can select the out put.

Re: Remote triggering - Yongnuo (560 III) and Canon 70D

After much searching, found an answer - from 2008.

    http://www.ephotozine.com/forums/top...p-please-65995

Basically, go into the menu and find Silent Live View Shoot. It was in the last camera mode menu on the 70D.
It gave me the option of Mode 1, Mode 2 Disable.
    I chose Disable.

Now everything seems to work just fine.
    Problem solved.

Bobobird, Rob and Allen, see if this works for you as well.
(Rob, when in modes other than Disable, the pop-up flash wouldn't work either)
    Thanks all.

Graham, i tried it on both my 60D and 6D and it does work, but unsure if i will use liveview alot. Self portraits while using the 6D wireless capabilities to be able to control the camera from my phone and use liveview will have its benefits but other than that unsure if its got any other use for me personally. But i do thank you for the information about this for me and for others.
