Susan the CT-3442 if anything like my CT-3472LV would be an excellent purchase. I purchased the one with the leveling column and have used in only a few times if I need to get above everything. I also purchased their leveling base as suggested by a couple of NG shooters, I met who showed me the advantages of it, as we all shot similar styles, you may not require one, it makes it easy to level the base of the tripod with just a quick twist of the wrist.
As you are from Vermont I have found that the twist locks on the legs only need a slight twist to unlock and lock, with a little practice you can unlock all section with one twist with out having to remove your gloves, like with lever locks a great feature in winter. See tbob's thread on high fashion shot in People and Pets for winter fashion wear.
Now that just level the base with a push of a remote sounds great.

    Cheers:

The CT-3442 is shorter and not as stout as the CT3472LV. But in general, there are a lot of similarities among the Feisol tripods. The differences seem to be in things like base diameter and leg tube diameter. Small differences that apparently make a difference, since the price goes up as these increase. Somehow, even though the leg lock angles are all the same, some manage to get much closer to the ground than others. Hard to figure why! Perhaps I will call them up and ask about that.

The ability to unlock all leg sections at once has to be quicker and easier than the lever locks. I suppose that tightening them individually would also take less time than the levers. The lever hassle is why I started wishing for a remote control!

Thanks for the information. This tripod sounds like a definite possibility to replace the one I have!
