    Not a white Rabbit

Looked out the window to see a rabbit on the grass. Found the camera and took a few photographs through the glass I knew it would disappear if I opened the window. After the rabbit ran off I was checking the photographs and bit disappointed when I realised the camera was on the settings I use for work (JPEG and M size.) O.K. for the web even though it has been cropped a fair bit more.

    Not a white Rabbit
1/100 f8 ISO 500 hand held 300mm with VR ON and it seemed to do its job.

I had just set the camera back to my preferred settings of RAW at full size when I glanced out the window again to see a rather nice sky so I shot off another couple of shots. To often I see a nice sky and do not get the camera out but as I was already standing there holding it I had give it a go even if it took another 15 minutes to golden up properly.

    C and C welcome

They are both lovely shots. I wouldn't complain if that was my view from the window.

Yes; they are two different genre; but both are equally wonderful

Thank you Kaye and Nandakumar I am glad you like them.

Kaye when we looking for a property to build on it was the view that sold us this one. The downside is that only now after 10 years have we managed to plant enough trees to shelter us a little bit from the wind. Luckily the prevailing wind is from behind us.

Maybe we ought to start a thread, 'the view from my window' ?

Nice sharp shot of the rabbit and what a view from your window, LPaul. Why haven't we seen more of this view already ? - I think we should see at least one a week for a while, with varying light and sky conditions !!

    Good shot of the bunny.

I mulled over any crop of the sky and land but it works well as is. The exposure is good as well.

Not to slag the bunny; but aren't those things vermin in Australia and New Zealand? And the biologist bit of me thinks that is actually a hare (not to split hares)

Kaye I think last year there was a thread of a view of where you live and another of a photo of a local icon but I am not sure whether there has ever been a thread of a view from your window or where you live. I am sure nobody would object to you starting one.

Thank you Dusty I am going to make some observations as to the species in my next reply.

Thanks for the comments and I have sneaked the view in a couple of times before - I will add them below for comparisons.

Trevor thank you for the comments on the photographs.

Now just because you visited N.Z. briefly does not make you an expert on our native species but I suppose as it is an introduced animal I will have to examine your hypothesis.

    Possibilities:

1 A pretty little bunny rabbit.
2 It is a Norwegian rat still in it's Halloween costume
3 I was unaware photoshop transformed an ugly bunny into a charming hare.
4 You are correct and it is indeed a hare.

In my defence the title of the thread is Not a white Rabbit so at least that was correct regardless of the above possibilities.

For Dave - here are three more. How many do you want?

    Not a white Rabbit
    Not rabbits or hares!

Thanks Ken I have a version of #2 cropped a bit more as a panorama and done as a large canvas print hanging on one of our walls and I am delighted at the attention it gets.

Given the quality of these three, that will suffice thanks.

    Hi Paul,

I just looked up hares and indeed it is a hare. Most notable feature the longer, bigger ears. Somehow I didn't clue in on the title but good to know.

I accept the challenge, but it may be a while as the view from my window needs some thought and creativity to make it a shot worth posting.

I am not one to gloat in victory (well actually I am, but quietly and only bring up the topic six or seven times a year for the next decade). Nice shot of the turkeys on your lawn by the way.

I will have to ask you to stop posting images of New Zealand, at least until well into May when the trees here finally will turn green again. Alternatively I could steal your images, blow them up, and paste them over my windows.

I am torn between 1 and 2. I think in the long run number two edges out. I can see why you have it on your wall.

    Re: Not a white Rabbit

    Thank you all.

Trevor I have a large collection of photographs taken of tropical scenes in countries that have never have snow so banning NZ pix will not help you avoid your forthcoming gloom.

They were birds called Pukeko until photoshop (an American programme) converted them into turkeys as you so keenly observed.
