Does the 105mm you are discussing have it's own focus motor?
If not, that could be an issue for D3000/D5000 owners.
The one I've been looking at is the Nikon and it has its own motor and VR. I'm not sure about the Sigma, but if I go that route, I will make sure. I like to stick to Nikon, but the price difference is very tempting sometimes.

I still find the settings on this camera very awkward. Is that just me or do you have to practice a bit. I don't think I'll ever get my fingers around the EC buttons. I know what I want to do, but it would take me 5 minutes to get things adjsuted.
Using the Fn button looks like it will be easy to manipulate for ISO, I will try that out this afternoon.

    Thanks Guys

    Hei Wendy,
I think its true of all multi adjustable cameras and the D3000 is no exception. Though I appreciate its limited number of buttons to finger and make a lot of use of the Menu/Recent Settings screen display. I keep the most used settings on this screen and its quick and easy to get to. If I use a feature that I do not often use then I subsequently delete it from the Recent Settings list and in this way keep what I want!

Thanks Ron: I will have to check out the menu settings. I just got new glasses so I can wear them all the time when out taking pictures. If I can actually see the menu screen, I will make it a point to get things programmed. Your method should work quite well. I'm checking it out now

Hmmm I wonder if anyone is going to finish this comp. now that we've kind of railroaded it.

I guess it took me a while, but I can now do things even wearing (leather) gloves - great, no more frozen hands

EC is easy, move shutter finger back 1/2 inch, press and use thumb to spin the control wheel - I even turn the right way first time these days

and manual ISO control at a finger tip is great - ya gotta love that Fn button!

    Cheers,

    Wendy'
Just going to 'sign off' and thought about your comment. Maybe what we should all do (since we are so talkative) is to open a 2nd new Thread for each Competition and call it something like 'Discussion on Mini Competition #66' etc. This will then enable us to easily scan the pics' for judging. There must be an easy way to 'link' 2 threads??

    Nice shot Peterb533!

HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) will need to be present if you want a sigma to autofocus on a D3000. 105mm no. 150 and 180mm macros, yes.

    Once A Home

I'm afraid my participation in CiC Forum has been sporadic to say the least! However I am trying to become a little more active.

I shot this scene along the road between Bryce Canyon and Kodachrome Basin in souther Utah. Although I shot it in color I figured b&w would better suit this scene.

I welcome all comments and critiques. (I would normally post images without frame or matte but this is linked from my website).
