    Re: holiday pics

    Hi Steve,

It looks like you visited a beautiful place on your holiday. Where was it?

The photos serve as a memoir of a nice holiday, but I think they can be improved to become something more than that. They would benefit from more post-processing, for example, to increase contrast, reduce the brightness of the sky in the third one, and some adjustments to shadows etc.

I have made some adjustments to #2 and #3, which are below. I'm sure others could do a better job than me.

I prefer a panoramic view to the 4:3 and square crops; they are more visually appealing and better portray what we see.

I think that the second photo could be improved by showing a bit more of the beach, as it has a nice colour that would complement the scene. It's also a nice photo as it is.

The third photo has some flare, which is hard to avoid. It seems to arc across to the lower right of the photo, touching the plants; perhaps it's visually connecting with a branch, because I haven't seen flare do that before. In any case, it detracts from the quality of the photo. This scene would also benefit from a graduated ND filter.

    Regards

    Tony

    Hi Tony,
    Thanks for the comments .
Firstly the pics were taken in dorset UK pics 1 & 2 are of a place called Durdle Door and 3 is called Corfe castle.
Thanks for the post processing, this is something i still have to get to grips with as at present i don,t do any . I agree with you that it does improve the pics and is something i really need to start looking at.
    Once again many thanks
    Regards

Reminds me of my honeymoon* Steve. Walking up to Corfe Castle but there was far more mist about. A warm October. I feel you have captured the place well actually.

*Good area for things like that. Hotels with 4 poster beds and plenty of country pubs with good food.

With a shot like that it would probably been best to wait until the sun was more obscured by a cloud as it's shot into the light. That usually causes a camera to under expose the part you are interested in. Or take 2 exposures one sky correct and the other castle correct.. It's worth keeping shots for later as your PP improves. You might get more out of the raw image but the sun is still likely to be a problem. If you can post the raw file some where some people might see what they can do with it.

Anyway in my view it does give the feel of the place even if for the wrong reasons. Corfe is famous for mist. When I went the base of the hill was relatively clear and far from clear at the top. It didn't last long either. Local knowledge might be useful. I took a quick look on the web but all shots I could see looked doctored.

For none UK people it was part demolished in 1646 probably with a huge cheer from the locals as they were probably fed up with armies turning up and laying siege to it and eating all of the food for miles around. It's probably the most fairy tail type ruined castle of the lot. Some one from Scotland might disagree with that.
