Salute To Our Real Heros - India Gate

Hi, going forward on my photography venture I stopped and clicked another shot. Can you please review it and let me know what exactly is missing for it to make it much better?

It is an image of India Gate, New Delhi and the gun is a tribute to our brave soldiers.

It is an HDR image with EV Range: -3 0 +2, processed in Photoshop.

    Thank You

Salute To Our Real Heros - India Gate

Very nice Raj, I love the colours and the flowers in the foreground seem almost 3D
One of your best so far

It really is an interesting composition and the colors are very dynamic without being overpowering. However, the foreground plants have so much presence that they seem to be the subject and I don't think that is what you intended, at least not according to the title of your thread. As an example, if you crop the bottom to be just below the thing that contains the flame, the memorial and everything it stands for becomes the unquestionable subject. Perhaps a return to the site will render something along those lines.

Thank you for the review and sharing such a valuable knowledge. I clicked one more shot where the plants are not so dominating in the frame. I will process the HDR for that too and put for the review. Once again thanks

Raj, I like the image, should you want to reshoot...try to get some lens flare in the image.

That's actually really easy to do. I know because it happens to me every time I don't want it to happen.

Excellent shot! I love the understatement of this image... The helmet and rifle are an integral part of the image but, are not right-in-your-face about it.

I would suggest cropping the bottom slightly, say... right below he containers of the plants in the main row. This would avoid the container and the bottom of the plant in the lower image right. The botom right of the image would be only the green plant.

If possible, I might play with the image to adjust the vertical lines of the walls of honor on either side of the rifle and helmet. I like to use the lens adjustment module in camera RAW to do this. It might be difficult to adjust each image which you blended into the HDRI composite. Instead, you might open the final HDRI in Camera Raw and use the adjustment module to straighten the walls.

Thanks for your review.. Will be going there in 4-5 days again, i know the exact spot & time where i installed the tripod, will try to get flares if possible how about adding them in post processing... but few questions are arising in my mind..:
    1. Position of the flare.
    2. Flare will act as distraction or not...

I'm not sure about both the questions.. Can you please provide more info for it? thanks

In Raw file? Can you please provide more info on it? Havnt got a flare in the final shot... may be the sun was not shining that hard, not sure about it.

Thanks for your feedback and the review. Here is the cropped version as suggested... hope i have done it right.

I forgot to remove the distortion in the camera raw initially, so stupid of me. Now, if i'm doing any changes, it is just softening the pixels in photoshop.

Raj: I believe that you have nailed all the right elements here, the classic symbol for the fallen soldier, the pillars with the names of the fallen, the eternal flame, the colours in the sky and the angle of shot was taken, all to me very powerful. Given the chance I would have shot it the same way, only difference in presentation of the image. What I did was to sculpture the light differently, I did this by darkening around the outside edges of the image to force the eye more to where I wanted it to go. I loved the triangle of colour created by the eternal flame, the sky, and the plants all having that golden colour against the black of the upturned rifle of the fallen soldier. Again a very powerful image you have created.
If the change I made to your image is incorrect in anyway please let me know and I will withdraw it from the thread.

Thanks for the appreciation and the review. I will try to use more hard vignette to draw more attention to the elements used.

Please feel free to edit the images to make it much better.

The file format being used doesn't affect whether flare is present in the image; flare is an optical issue that will be recorded using any file format.

I actually haven't done much with capturing flare, so I don't know the ideal situation other than that the direct rays of the sun must not be blocked by a lens hood or other object. Different apertures will have different effects on the style of the flare and perhaps even the shape of the aperture will be apparent when using certain aperture settings, but I don't remember which apertures produce which effects.
