    A little help with the croppping please and thank-you

    This is very lightly cropped because I find the effect of the in focus plant and the out of focus house and yard compelling. But I am sorely tempted to crop it much tighter to bring out the detail within the plant.

    something like this;

    Brian. This image needs to concentrate on the ants and the plant, there is more than enough there to interest the viewer and I find myself straining to see more. The light leaf to the right and the light wall are just distractions and detract from the image. I would go with a very tight crop; just left of the two ants on the diagonal leaf, just above the highest ant and then just slightly right of the knobby bit above the base.

    When shooting try for different angles and tight versus more distant shots. You can always chuck out some if you don't like the composition. Ask yourself what is the one element I want the viewer to see? Make that dominant. It may not be one item, could be a group of things related to each other in a pleasing way. May also be to convey a sense of scale (a person standing in a field under huge open sky). There is usually one strong element, everything else is just like supporting characters in a play; designed to bring out that main character.

    I would go even more extreme. The area of interest is the ants moving the eggs.

    I tried it but it lost the beauty for me. But it did highlight the ants.

    It is important to listen to your inner voice when you are creating images. That is how you develop a style and, more importantly, continue to have joy when photographing

    Just the adjustments I mentioned and a slight reduction in brightness but I may have brightened it earlier.
