    More portraits

    Hello everyone!

Here are some more pictures. These I just took this past weekend, again with a point and shoot.

I am still not so great with the PP and would greatly appreciate some help eliminating the twigs in her face in the last photo. Unfortunately I couldn't move further left without ending up in the water.

And as Dave said before, please feel free to visit my albums and leave comments!

    Thanks!

    Have a guess :)

    Re: More portraits

    Just a quick thought ...

... since you've setup yourself up with some albums, you'd be better off just linking to them in your posts rather than uploading them as attachments (attachment space is limited).

Just sing out if you need a hand doing that

Here is a link to another recent post, pick up from step 14)

No need to sing now (unless I have mucked up).

    Cheers,

Thanks for the tip. I'll give that a shot tomorrow.

Any feedback on the new ones?

Stephanie Francis 35-A bit out of focus.
Stephanie Francis 55-lighting is much better, facial tones more pleasant.
Stephanie Francis 39-moody portrait, overexposed in the background.
Stephanie Francis 25-nice portrait, would have either moved the model or removed the twig extending over face.

    1) Not sure what happened with the focus on this one. Very blurry.

    2) This one is my fav out of the four. Exposure is good, sharpness good, the look in the model's face seems natural and not forced or awkward, lighting on her face is also nice (from light entering from right diffusing off brick wall?), the lines of the brick wall lead you into the model, and overall colours and tones are pleasant. Only crit is that the top of the frame does seem a tad close to her head.

    3) This one has exposure and noise issues, the latter perhaps due to ISO setting? I find that my eyes are drawn to the blown-out background rather than the model.

    4) I struggled the most with the model's expression and the branches in this one.

Number 2 definitely works for me in this group. I think it deserves your attention.

#1: I knew it was blurry, but thought it worked. Oh well, more practice.

#3: How to I compensate or fix the blown out background on a point and shoot? Is this an aperture issue? If so, I don't know that it can be adjusted. Any tips are appreciated here!

Thanks for the feedback!! Am loving everything that I learn here!

    Blurry photos.
Sometimes blurry photos can work for you if you are trying to convey movement, you have one part of the photo in focus (example a foreshortened leg of a seated model), or when you use a natural object such as a tree limb as a border.

    Over exposed photo
First try to match the setting with the camera's scene mode (portrait in this case-but also consider the effects of the sun, on a very sunny day you might want to use the beach/snow mode), then if portions of the photo look washed out use the +/-exposure setting to adjust.

keep trying, I still have to make adjustments when using my point and shoot and not every photo comes out the way I want. One other tip, shoot more than one photo of a scene and make changes if you are not happy with the shot. Also, it doesn't hurt to take the shot from more than one angle.
