    A compliment for Nik/Google

I had reason to contact support at Nik/Google (I'm just going to type Nikoogle from now on ),

I wanted the latest version (because of the Nik plug-ins had started to crash sometimes - last time it was the graphic card drivers but I thought I would start off with the latest Nik versions).

I wasn't obvious how to do that from their web site, if you had bought before the takeover, so first I tried their email support. The auto response said that it might be a couple of days before they got back to me, so with some trepidation I decided to try their telephone support.

First nice surprise - you don't ring them, they ring you! You fill out your phone number on the webpage, and your phone rings immediately. Of course, that is an automated service, but at least you're not paying!

You pick the option you want, and wait to be put through to a person. Second nice surprise, I was talking to one in less than a minute.

The Nikoogle gentleman said he would send me a link to the download, which would install over my existing products and re-use the licenses. Third nice surprise - said he would stay on the phone till the email arrived to make sure he'd used the correct address.

The email arrived, and the re-installation seems to have cleared the problem.

So, very good marks to Nikoogle for how a telephone support service should work.

That's good to read. I hope someone connected with the NIK bit of Google picks that message up.

The great fear was that something drastic was going to happen to the NIK suite once Google took it on. It does seem as if the Webinars have gone, which is a great shame as they were the best learning resources I've ever come across on the web (apart from the CiC tutorials, of course). But, I suppose, they were costly to produce and someone might believe that they were not how most people want to learn. It seems that most people like their information in 4-5 minute chunks, rather than via an hour-long, in-depth, seminar-type format. Great shame.

But overall, Google seems to remain committed to the production of this suite of tools aimed at the professional/serious amateur. Long may they continue to do so.

    Or Niggle

I think Nikoogle has a pleasing Caledonian or Hibernian ring to it, just needs the right accent Donald, how about an audio upload?

I'm open to being approached with a commission to do Scottish-accented voice-overs on the Webinars.

I got good service from Nikoogle when the auto upload of the latest filter set crashed my program.

I absolutely LOVE Nikoogle! And for all its detractors I have this to say...

I am willing to bet that if Adobe has incorporated the wonderful Nikoogle (of course it would only have been NIK) filter set into Photoshop, the Photoshop gurus would have been singing its praises as the "best thing since sliced bread!"

Just Google 'Scotty quotes'. They're all there.
