Yes they are...along with sea gulls, they are the first "go-to bird" for that new camera/lens, just to check it out and improve your technique. After a brief looksee on the monitor, most are relegated to the recycle bin as they just don't seem to have the photogenic gracefulness of the larger birds.Ducks - so common, so mundane...
That said...IMHO, you seem to have done just fine.
Bobo, I would also ask what a duck is doing with a fish on its beak! The fish probably went fine, after this shocking experience. . Very nice images! #2 is superb, IMO.

I have just been told by some people who know such things that ducks do take fish usually small one's when they ar grubbing about. Others like the mergansers take pretty big fish too.
But both reckon that this woodie had taken something just a bit too big.
