    Boats in need

Had a walk at the coast today, actually it's not the coast it's a salt-water lake (or etang), so it's also large, wet and salty.
Without realising it, I had walked past a fisherman's village and so I was amazed at the number of abandoned boats everywhere, some were very sad but all were quite beautiful I thought.
The light was lovely but the wind was ferocious and cold as daggers, in the end I had to give up and head back as my feet had got wet and were beginning to go numb !
I enjoyed it, and there were some great views of the snow on the mountains too, but thats for another day.
All comments appreciated and I hope you enjoy too

    Hi Mat.

I love shots of abandoned boats, empty boats high and dry or abandoned boats filled with water. It always seems like such a waste to let them deteriorate.

You've captured the boats well and anyone can readily tell these are no longer functioning. I like the top and bottom images the best. The top because of the lighting and the pure simplicity. The bottom has a nice arrangement of the boats, and of course the colors on the right boat is wonderful.

For my own shots, I prefer to take the shots at an angle rather than square on. I think it makes for a more dynamic image. I also like to take the shot from the back of the boat looking towards the bow as if the boat is pointing. Of course, that is not always possible. For example, in photo #2, I suspect your position is far better than what would have been seen from the back of the boat. Anyway, I'm just rambling on and will stop now. Thanks for posting.

Mat these all shine individually, and become more as a series. I love the sense of dereliction you have captured in 2 and 5.

Thanks Ken, I too love the shapes they make and there's something skeletal about the structurew of wooden boats that reminds me of those drawings they based the alien movies on, but I can't remember the artists name !
Anyhow I agree with you about not shooting staight on but it wasn't that easy due to the surroundings (water) but I will bear it in mind next time I'm at the ship graveyard, Thanks for commenting
