My thoughts are:
A problem with the first one is that there is too much foreground/middleground. We've got this large 'blob' of trees that are not really interesting in their own right, taking up more than half the image, before we get to the fog.
The second one is a little over-processed for my tastes (but not everyone will agree with that view).
For me, the third one starts to get closer to the real-deal. The fog is the main focus of attention; i.e. the composition is much stronger. The lighting is good. The whole thing has got a nice, balanced feel to it
