OOOPS..they did it again! ..check your flickr acct.

    More huge changes imposed.

Don't bother with the 'opt out' button..they disabled it.

    Says it all.

Robin....following on from the universally unpopular changes of a few months ago they are unrolling some more changes . If you can click on a pic and can't see anything different then it's just that they haven't got to you yet.

    This is what they say

Over the last 4 weeks, we received a lot of feedback from the Flickr community regarding the photo page design. Based on the feedback, we are experimenting with different variations of the photo page to identify the best experience.

Please continue providing us with feedback so we can continue to improve Flickr.

Sadly they are missing the point tht we don't want MORE 'improvements' we want it back to the way it was when it worked just fine!

Is the rather wide white boarder down to Flickr Sharon?

The white border does not appear on my photostream (yet). if that is the change they are making, it is for the worse. However, the site is free, so we can't expect to have much control over what they do.

I use flickr primarily to post to groups. for my own real site, I use Smugmug, which in its current version allows a great deal of customization and control. It's not expensive, but it's not free.

The border that I am placing around my pics is purely driven by the changes flickr made John...and I am far from alone in doing so.

Photostream now shows your pics jammed up against one another edge to edge and it is the only way to give each picture a bit of space that doesn't make your page look like some kind of teenage collage. It pains me greatly to do it because I actually find frames and big borders to be ostentatious and rather arrogant.

Dan...I was a flickr pro acct holder and was happy to pay. Now I don't have the option as the have dropped the pro acc......doesn't stop them continuing to take the money for it though but that's another story!

I have tried ipernity and 500pix but the community spirit is not the same and many of the people I follow and who follow me have dropped out of them. That's the only reason I am still with flickr

I saw the comment strip down the side of Donald's shots. Awful.

Curiously mine haven't changed much. There is a bug though. If an image is clicked on sometimes the discs spin and things lock up.

Comments below mine. I don't get many. They used to only available out of the lightbox view.

I can understand why they are making the changes and there will be some. In this case they are trying to create a facebook type atmosphere and aren't sure how to do it. More site action = more punters and more income from adds. I suspect they are paranoid about attracting more of the younger generation or facebook types as I call them. They live there life on there. Seems camera manufacturers have similar problems.

I am very active on some yahoo news groups at times and they have made changes on those too. They had been the same for as long as I can remember. One aspect drove me up the wall so I posted a comment that ok the changes are fine but if I do this that happens. It was fixed. Most people just bitched about the changes full stop. I even had a mail back from them. If people comment it's best to try and be constructive rather than dismissive. In this case some one has carefully worked on a shot with the background at a certain colour level. Putting comments in white next to the shot destroys it Putting them under the shot like mine doesn't encourage people to comment. They might not even see them. On the other hand if they added a comment button or such like to the lightbox.............. etc they might just do that or some one else might come up with a better idea.

I understand it's also possible to pay for Flickr unless I am confusing it with some where else. On the photo groups paying does influence what can be done.

If it makes you feel better, SquareSpace screws with saturation and color balance as well. After painstakingly editing my photos, I usually have to screw with their terrible built-in image editor to bring them back into line.

I wonder why it's so hard to do nothing to a photo. Even Facebook doesn't bork colors, though they have terrible resizing algorithms.

Perhaps the best idea is to have your own website and enter the meta data properly so it appears in search engines. I guess it is easier and quicker with flicker but if they mess with you ? You could just have a few shots on flicker with info about your own site perhaps?

Even CiC is playing up and I can see this message as 'history' yet it is telling me to repost in 30 seconds or so so I will with this postscript

In an ace move by flickr over the weekend the share codes are now behind your shot and can't be accessed so until they fix that out you won't be seeing anything from me. ( I won't use photobucket because of distortion issues)

Also you can no longer see who has favourited' your shot...just how many favourites it has and all favourites most certainly are not equal.

Why is it that almost every time somebody improves something they make it worse?

Are you sure about that? I can see the share codes on the right, and I can also still see who favourited using http://www.flickr.com/activity

Outstanding point. What prompted me to make my own site was exactly this, when you trust your stuff in someone else's site they always have complete control and they'll change what they like, when they like, and could make you pay for things at a moment's notice. For example forums that don't suddenly let you post photos unless theyre hosted on the forum, or other things like Flickr's redesign. At least on my own site nobody is every going to tell me what I should do. It's a lot of work but I thoroughly recommend it.

    https://yahoo.uservoice.com/forums/2...=share%20codes

While I get what you are saying about control and one's own Website that wouldn't replace the function of flickr for me. I have a lot of contacts and I simply wouldn't have time to visit everybodies own website or they mine. There's a very strong, supportive social spirit and sharing of ideas and concepts at Flickr..certainly among my contacts

I absolutely hate when programs change (improve?????) without giving you the option to opt out. Smugmug did this and my smugmug has never run the way I enjoyed working with it.

Along those lines, I just opted to update my Adobe Flash Player and damned Adobe installed a Security Program that I did not ask for, nor can I find it to get rid of it.

The U.S. Federal Government has rules and regulations controlling just about everything. Hell, there is a law that says in public restrooms that are used by both genders, the toilet seat must be of the split variety.

Yet, there is absolutely no protection for our computers against malware and the fellow travelers of malware that I uploaded when innocently updating my Adobe Flash Player...
