Perfect. I was not specific enough. If the camera had been wholesaled from a source other than Nikon USA, not only would Nikon USA not have offered warranty service, it would refuse to service the camera at all, under any conditions. That is not to say that it would have been impossible to get the camera repaired - far from it - just not by Nikon USA. But it looks like you're golden. Good luck with the throngs (and the available stock).

http://backup.cambridgeincolour.com/...128_204454.jpgWell, everyone, I am so excited! :D I stood in line for a couple hours and I got myself a camera!! I am beyond ecstatic and can't wait to start learning! If I hadn't gotten this sale tonight, it probably would have been a bit longer before I was able to get a camera. This was my first time ever going to any kind of black friday event, but it was totally worth it and it actually wasn't a nightmare, it was a good experience!

Re: opinions on these two?
Congratulations - enjoy - hope to see some posts of your shots in the coming months as we will be visiting Albuquerque at the end of may next year and from what others on this forum have advised me is that NM has some great places to visit.
Re: opinions on these two?
Great! That is what I was hoping to see! now comes the fun part:)

Re: opinions on these two?
My advice is: go for the Nikon. It is supposed to have a good sensor, 16MP being a good compromise, and the two lenses are very good, particularly for a beginner who wants to experiment with focal lengths. The Canon has less - which is still not too bad, but there seems also otherwise nothing to rave about.
If you are interested, here is the review of the Nikon from a reputed website:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond5100
and here fore the Canon:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos1100D
If you go to the conclusion, you will find that the Nikon is significantly higher rated than the Canon.
---Oops, just noted that you already bought the Nikon. Good choice. Have fun with it!

Congratulations! You made a wise decision, later you will understand why I say so. You will enjoy the Nikon.
A long learning curve has just started for you. Study the Manual and do lots of experiments with different settings. Remember, when you do not know what to do use the Auto setting. Never be in a hurry to go to M - Manual.
You will have to do lots of studying to master your new camera. Go for it and enjoy the camera.
Now you need to save to get yourself a good tripod and a good flash. ;)
Re: opinions on these two?
Hi Hope,
I was catching up on this thread and just about to jump in and say go for the D5100 kit with the two lenses and then turned to page 3.
Congratulations. Now you can forget all the reviews and different opinions and learn to get the best out of what you now have in your hands.
A challenge, we want to see the best picture you can produce in two days:)

Re: opinions on these two?
Thanks everyone! You all are a very encouraging group of people : ) I played around with it some already and have been watching different YouTube channels to learn some of the basics. I'm thinking maybe giving myself a photo project can help me experiment. Looking forward to this I'm sure it's going to be a long learning experience. Thanks everyone!
Re: opinions on these two?
Hope, a good place to learn some camera basics is on Adorama TV. You can find it on YouTube.
Congratulations on your new camera.
