    You can bring the spider out a bit more on shots like this Brian. If you look at the histogram top right it doesn't go very high or stretch right across. Due to the low tone variation in the shot and probably some under exposure. If you hit the Auto Levels button it will try and sort that out. It's often worth trying and if things don't improve hit neutral to put it back again.

    In this case that has brightened the image up too much so I used the lightness slider to reduce that. I then moved the black slider to the right. That is increasing contrast by moving low level tones towards black even clipping them at dead black if needed. It's also increased the contrast of the white flecks in the leaves. How much of that to use is a matter of taste It all depends on if you want to do this really.

    I worked on the photo your way and I was not happy with the really bright areas on the leaf. Is there some way short of cloning to reduce thae brightness to the right of the spider?

    You can selectively lighten or darken with the adjustment brush in lightroom or by masking in photoshop (or anything similar).
