Red Cows at Morning (C&C welcome)

Well they are. Not that you can tell the difference between Black and Red Angus before dawn but just in the interests of accuracy.
An opportunity I saw on the way home from work this weekend. Quickly bailed out of the truck and set up. The 40 km per hour wind was no help with a 400 mm lens on a wobbly tripod at full extension (to clear weeds on the road side). One sharp shot is all I got before the colour suddenly vanished due to a cloud obscuring the sun below the horizon

and to prove it was morning

Red Cows at Morning (C&C welcome)

and the out of camera (with sensor spots and horizon straightened) for anyone to play with as I learn from other peoples visions/interpretations of my images

Just curious, Trevor. Did you leave the image stabilization turned ON due to the wind, a less than rock-solid pod, and what I presume was a relatively slow shutter speed? I have taken to that adjustment just because it seems to make sense, and seems to work, though I don't have a control shot for comparison.

The short answer is:No. I left it on because I jumped out of the truck, quickly assembled the camera and lens and clamped it on the tripod. The image stabilization is left active on the lens as the default in case I see something I want to shoot while driving and can't use the tripod. I really don't know if it makes a whole lot of difference in the real world on the tripod. On or off, the images seem to be to be the same sharpness. I am told it works best if the image stabilization is turned off when using the tripod, but half the time it is on because I forget.

Although anything that will stabilize the image in a howling Chinook wind is welcome (the name we call these winds from the west; in winter a Chinook can raise the temperature amazingly. This one took the temperature from minus 11 to plus 4 in three hours. The corresponding wind from the north that drops the temperature back to minus 11 is called a *@$%#* . Chinook is an Indian word word meaning "go outside quick and chop a chunk off that frozen buffalo before the *@$%#* ")

I like the image, and it reminded me of one that I took a number of years ago. (near to Timaru NZ)

I prefer your to prove it was morning colour version although I am not sure it could be used as conclusive evidence of morning.

My error. I needed to explain, you need to have the back of the computer facing east for it to be morning. Actually 45 degrees south of east at this latitude in late November. In June; 45 degrees north of east. If your computer back was facing west I could see how you might be confused and think it was late evening.

Sorry to tell you that it was not morning here when you took the photo so all other explanation is irrelevant. Anyway my screen faces NNE + or - 20 digress.

I agree. I've never noticed a lick of difference whether I turn it off or leave it on, though the manual says to turn it off when on the 'pod. I quit doing that a long time ago and have yet to regret it.
