    West Aussie Hot Rods

Went to my first Hot Rod 'Show & Shine' on Sun and had a good time photographing the cars.

It was held in an industrial estate so it made it hard in regards to backgrounds etc, plus there were lots of people getting in the way and the light wasn't the best as one minute it was hot and sunny, then it was over cast and then storm clouds rolled in but it was a good learning curve.

Nice series Karl. The lighting wasn't that friendly but the exposures are spot on.

Hi Karl. I agree, nice cars. As you mentioned, with the environment, it is hard to isolate the cars without all the distractions of people and other cars in the background. Your exposures are very good.

Even in that environment, you should be able to get some cool shots of details by getting really close. You did that in image #4 where you captured the engine bay. You can even zoom in closer and get just a headlight, a grille, a distributor cap, etc. and that should result in some fascinating shots. My two cents worth.

Ken, thanks for that. I was tossing up between the Sigma 10 - 20mm or the 17 - 70mm lenses to use as I could only use one.

Unfortunately I have injured (or that should be re-injured) my left knee and I can not crouch down low or carry too much weight at the moment and I was hoping to use the 10 - 20 to get in nice and close and shoot down low etc but unfortunately that wasn't to be

So I went with the 17 - 70mm as I thought it may be a bit more versatile to use - i.e. people shots etc. Hopefully the knee will be fixed soon I will have most of my mobility back
