Urgent Please : Saving TIFF with 8-Bit

    Hello,
I have to save a tiff file with aRGB, 8-bit for the print. I usually work in ProPhoto RGB for post processing.

But facing problem in saving TIFF file with 8-Bit, don't know why photoshop is saving it in 16-bit.

Here are the steps i'm following:
    1. Saved Tiff file with ProPhoto RGB from file processed PSD.
    2. Opened that Saved TIFF file again in photoshop.. then Edit > Convert to profile > Selected "Adobe RGB" ( i'm not sure if aRGB format is Adobe RGB).
    3. Save as with another name with Adobe RGB profile embedded.

When i check it in Adobe Bridge, it is showing me 16-bit instead of 8-bit.

Please provide more information how to save the final processed psd file as TIFF, aRGB, 8-bit without layers.

    Thank You

It could be that your preferences are set to 16 bit rather than 8 bit?

In Photoshop under Image->Mode (probably?) you should be able to set your image to 8 bit. Try that - it should (probably...) work. Note that I've never tried this with a Tiff - only when saving Jpeg

The technical stuff isn't my strength, but have you considered saving the file as a JPEG? That would also be an 8-bit format that you can embed Adobe RGB in. In other words, I don't understand the advantage of printing from a TIFF file if you want to use an 8-bit format.

Thanks a lot for the information. Got the exact option as suggested for the future.

Actually I have to send one of my image to an exhibition for the prints and they are asking for this format only for the prints.

Thanks for the valuable information. Actually one of my image got selected for finals in a contest and they will display the print of my image. So, for that they are asked for aRGB 8-bit original processed tiff file. I don't have much idea for the prints and their formats.

    Hi Raj,

Don't forget to change that Camera RAW setting back to 16 bit though, or you'll be limiting all your future editing to 8 bit

I would do it the way Paul (bambleweeney) suggested, although like him, I have only saved jpgs like that myself as I use psd otherwise.

    Good luck in the contest,

    Good luck in the contest,
Thanks for your suggestion & best wishes I already changed the settings in Camera Raw back to ProPhoto, 300 ppi, 16 bit and will surely follow Paul's suggestion in the future.
